Re-enactors from throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada gather each year for the Annual Encampment on the English Camp parade ground here on San Juan Island. Even though this is my 4th summer living on the Island, this is the first summer that I have been able to go to the Encampment. English Camp is a pretty place to go to any time. But it was very cool seeing it with tents pictched and people dressed as they would have been in the 1860s during one of my favorite time periods and the time of the Great American Pig War! Yes it was a war over a pig. But the bigger issue was over boundary lines. So for twelve years both English and American solders encamped on our island (San Juan Island) until the dispute was decided. |

I think that I should like to do re-enacting just to get to wear all the pretty dresses! :)
