    | San Juan Island is home to Pelindaba Lavender Farm. It is not far from were we live and this time of year is great for stoping and smelling the lavander! I love the smell of lavender, for me it is just one of those happy smells! :) And I am not alone in my liking of these fragrant purple flowers, as you might see form the pictures, the honey bees seem to love the lavender! Everywhere you look, there are busy bees working on getting nectar for honey making. You can hear them buzzing all thorugh the fields. But no worries for you that are afraid of bees, even my hubby that is sure that all bees are out to get him, had no run in's with any of them! The truth is a honey bee that is away from the hive foraging for nectar or pollen will rarely sting, except when stepped on or roughly handled. So pretty much, if you leave them alone they will leave you alone. |

Lavender is great in so many ways!
1. It is quite easy to grow.
2. The dear don't eat it!!! (only islanders can know how truly wonderful it is to find a plant the dear do not eat!)
3. It is very pretty.
4. It smells awesome!
5. It is edible! (This is one of my personal favorites about lavender.) It can be used in either sweet or savory dishes. It has a distinct flavor profile that is fun to try in new ways.
6. It's a natural antiseptic.
7. It can be used as a bug repellant!
8. It has a calming effect, as well as helps aide in sleep.
9. It can be used for cleaning.
10. It is often used in soups.
(Something I want to learn how to make.)
And I am sure that there are many more ways that it is used, these are just the ones that I know about and can think of off the top of my head.
